Free Heart Checks in Cornwall

A Mousehole mum who lost her daughter to Sudden Death Syndrome urges us to get our hearts checked.

Pirate FM has learnt 12 young people drop dead on the spot every week.

Now a campaign is up and running to try and detect problems before it is too late.

Sylvia Pezzack's daughter Debbie died six years ago, leaving three young children: "I just don't want to see other people go through the torment that we had. One minute you've got a healthy, bubbly young woman and the next day she's dead.

"I still can't believe it and I just feel that if I can prevent it happening to other people then this is what I've got to do because 12 young people, fit and healthy young people, die every week."

Sylvia is organising a free check-up at a Mobile Heart Screening Unit at Penwith Sixth Form College over the weekend of 26th and 27th October.

This facility is open to all young people between the ages of 14 to 35.

Up to 200 people can register. There are more details here.
