The MP for Truro and Falmouth is demanding a promise from the new armed forces minister on the future of Cornish TA troops.

The government wants to move Six Rifles from the city to Plymouth and Barnstaple.

Sarah Newton thinks they will find it harder to recruit here when they are moved.

She is calling for a U-turn and a visit to the Duchy.

She said: "{I want him} to see first hand what an excellent company they are in Truro, what a great loss it would be not only for Cornwall but for the whole country, if people from Cornwall couldn't serve in the army as they have done for hundreds of years with great distinction.

"It is completely unreasonable to ask people who are already making big sacrifices to serve their country, to travel up to Plymouth. Also I don't want to see this break in the continuity of Cornish people serving alongside the rest of Britain."
