It is claimed places like Cornwall are getting half the money to spend on things like schools and hospitals as big cities.

Now the Duchy's MPs are demanding more money and a fairer deal.

Thousands of people have signed a petition backing them.

St Ives MP Andrew George told Pirate FM: "The way in which the cake is divvied up is such that Cornwall is now seeking to make very significant cuts to services just to balance the books and in fact if we received what metropolitan authorities received per head of population we'd be looking at growing those services.

"Across all of the rural local authorities, per head, each person in a rural authority gets only half of what each person in a city local authority gets from the government and what we're asking for is fair shares."
