Revealed: Possibly Cornwall's tiniest victim of the storms.

'Pasty' the meerkat is being looked after at Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary in Par after she was abandoned by her family during the howling wind and rain.

Apparently that is normal behaviour for the animals.

Owner Grenville Allen explains: "Meerkats are funny creatures. If they see any threat to the family group, the babies suffer and in the wild they would pack up and move to a safer burrow. In captivity they do exactly the same but humans are on standby.

"At the moment she's very cute and cuddly. She will get to the point where she'll be looking to become a proper meerkat. We quite often get offered meerkats who've been kicked out of groups from other zoos. So, we'll probably take one of those and she'll live in an outdoor enclosure and the public will be able to come and meet her."
