We are being promised that everything possible will be done to protect Cornwall's air link to London.

Keeping the link should help Newquay airport expand.

So says the government after it promised to help fund flights to Gatwick for the next four years.

Danny Alexander is Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

He is hoping other airlines will pile in: "I hope that the airport has a great future, I think with those different levels of support there is a lot going into helping make sure it isn't just secured, but can grow and develop over the years to come.

"I hope it will encourage a lot more people to visit Cornwall, it's a brilliant place and I hope to make a few more visits here myself over the next few months and beyond."
