Camborne celebrates its most influential son.

Richard Trevithick invented the first high pressure steam engine which revolutionised industry in the 19th century.

The mining engineer also built the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive

Thousands are expected in the town to see replicas and parades for the annual Trevithick Day.

Organiser Kingsley Rickard helped set it up over thirty years ago.

He said: "Mining and general industry was on the way and a small local group thought we need to do something to just give Camborne a bit of a lift, so it was going to be a day of celebration of Cornwall and Camborne's industrial history.

"Naturally one thinks of steam and we have full size traction engines and miniature traction engines in town, but you name it we have something pretty well to take everyone’s interest on Trevithick Day."
