Police investigate after a woman was sexually assaulted in Penzance.

Detectives say the 23 year old was attacked on Saturday night as she walked up the Arcade Steps: "A 23-year-old woman was walking up the steps by the Arcade, between Market Jew Street and Bread Street, when a group of five or six men pushed her from behind onto her front.

"The woman, from Penzance, was punched, kicked and sexually assaulted before she managed to get up and run off.

"She suffered visible injuries to her knees and hand during the incident that happened between 11.45pm on Saturday 10 May and 12.45am on Sunday 11 May."

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw a group of men in the area at this time, or knows who they are, to contact police.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting AP/14/1106.
