36 Staff Accused Of Sex Attacks In Cornish Schools

Pirate FM can reveal the number of staff at Cornish schools accused of sexual abuse against pupils.

It was 11 last year - down from 14 the year before.

That is across both primary and secondary schools.

Over the last three years 36 members of staff have faced accusations of sex attacks.

While police were called every time, only ten were suspended.

Andrew Wallis is in charge of keeping children safe at the council.

He said: "It's not just the council. It's the police, it's the schools, the governors - everyone working together to keep our children safe.

"Parents want to send their children to safe environment at school and it is our job, with our partners, to make sure they have the best educational life as possible and to grow into healthy adults.

"Processes are very robust as it is, but something like the Disclosure and Barring Service, something only appears in there if you've been convicted.

"It's not foolproof but this is why we put processes into place so if there is any allegation it is investigated."
