Cornish crews have rescued a baby deer from a Cornish china clay pit.

Firefighters from St Dennis St Austell and Bodmin got the call to the Imery's site at Melbur near Summercourt this morning.

They used specialist kit to pull the fawn free.

After a good hose down it was released back into the wild unharmed.

A spokesperson said: "Crews have successfully rescued the deer uninjured from the clay slurry. Firefighters wearing dry suits, life jackets and harnesses reached the deer using a 5metre and two 2 metre inflatable rescue paths. An RSPCA Inspector was also in attendance. The deer was washed down to remove the clay slurry and was then released back into the wild."
