Football: Argyle vs Cambridge
7:03am 9th August 2014
Plymouth Argyle's boss has told Pirate FM he is excited for the start of the football season.
John Sheridan's squad travel to Cambridge for their opening match.
The gaffer says it will be a tough game after their rivals' promotion, but he is feeling confident.
He told Pirate FM what it is all about: "Getting a bit of game time with the players and keeping everyone fit and going in with your strongest squad and hopefully your better players prepared and ready for the first game and what's going to be a long season. You're going to need your whole squad. It's not going to be the same eleven you think's going to be playing week in week out.
"The game's going to be a very tough game, they've come up last season with confidence, and they got a promotion. It wouldn't really matter who you're playing first game though, they're all tough. It's just important what we do, and we go in there and be confident that we'll get the three points that we're after and that's what we'll do- we'll try and win every game we're playing."
Defender Curtis Nelson said: "The pre-season's gone really well. Especially how the lads have got along with each other. There's definitely a good team spirit, everyone gets along with each other, and it's a really good group of lads."
Goalkeeper Luke McCormick added: "Last year we let the start of the season get away from us and we were constantly then playing catch up. The lads that experienced that last season, we've learnt from that. We've learnt the importance of what this early part of the season will do for us; we should be competing at the top end of the table."
Kick-off is at three o'clock on Saturday 9th August.
