Cornwall Anti-Cuts Campaign

Cornwall News

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 7:05am 20th June 2015.

Cornwall is making a stand over government cuts.

An anti-austerity demonstration is being held in Penzance on Saturday, to coincide with the national one in London.

It is to lobby the government as ministers slash funding for stuff like education, benefits the NHS and police.

Ailsa Johnson from Pendeen helped organise it: "The main concern is that we're quite a poor part of the country and the austerity that the government are bringing in is damaging us probably more than people perhaps in the south-east or the rest of the country so we're particularly hit by the austerity cuts.

"We're very concerned about young people getting jobs and about housing; where they're going to live? This is the sort of thing that the government should be concentrating on, the quality of life, instead of just thinking that business is the answer to everything."

The demonstration, organised by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Cornwall branch, is taking place between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday 20th June on Market Place, Penzance.

It coincides with the People's Assembly Against Austerity mass demonstration taking place in London.
