An experienced diver has told of the "incredible" moment a playful seal turned over to have its tummy tickled off the Isles of Scilly.

In an amazing video the curious seal and a friend swim up to Gary Grayson, investigating his diving gear, before apparently shaking hands.

One eventually flips over onto its back to be tickled and floats around in apparent bliss.

Gary and members of his Manchester diving club were on a week long diving trip to the islands when it happened.

Gary told Pirate FM: "I've seen interaction with other guys and girls under the water when they've had their fins nibbled or they've been buzzed by seals - but never any interaction such as I got on the day.

"I was very, very fortunate. It was just a very emotional, humbling experience.

"I just love the place - I will be going back in the next few years hoping to have another experience like that."

The video was shot three years ago but has gone viral online after Gary shared it on his Facebook page with the note: "People ask why I go diving... this is why."

Gary said: "I have been fortunate in my diving career to have dived in St Lucia, Mexico, to have dived with sharks and also crocodiles. So all in all I've had quite a few experiences.
