A consultation has launched into plans to extend a Cornish college to Bodmin.

Truro and Penwith College recently received a major funding approval to build a new college at Callywith in Bodmin.

Bosses say it will provide high-quality post-16 education and first-class facilities for students in North and East Cornwall.

This followed successful acquisition of the land and planning approval.

It is hoped to open in September 2017.

The College is now urging local people, and especially interested parents and other stakeholders, to grasp further opportunities to help shape the new provision, including the curriculum planning and admissions policy at the new Callywith College.

To do this Truro and Penwith College is launching a six-week consultation to give parents of prospective students the opportunity to have their say.

To coincide with the consultation, which runs until May 1st, the aims and vision document, 'Callywith College' has been published in conjunction with a short questionnaire in which consultees can have their say.

The document, currently available to view and download via the College's website, includes more detail on the College's proposed admissions policy and the wide-ranging curriculum on offer.

Launching the consultation this week, Truro and Penwith College Principal David Walrond said: "Callywith College will provide comprehensive tertiary education of the same outstanding quality delivered at our Truro and Penwith campuses, significantly improving the life chances of thousands of young people, and empowering them to progress onto higher education and into employment.

"We will work closely with local partners to ensure that the campus is a genuine hub for economic growth and will support the strong aspirations of local people to enhance their skills and attainment.

"We are very grateful to the many parents, prospective learners and other stakeholders who have expressed such interest in the college to date. I would encourage them all to participate in this consultation and would like to thank them in anticipation for their continuing involvement as we work together to deliver outstanding post-16 education and training."
