Six ponies have been rescued from the moors in north Cornwall.

Bodmin Moorland Pony Rehabilitation tweeted to say they were 'starving.'

The group took in the creatures on Thursday night.

They posted 'Meet the Bodmin 6! Safely seized & rescued tonight from #bodminmoorcrisis area.'

On its Facebook page, a spokesperson for the group added: "A very long day waiting on a phone call but meet the Bodmin Six! We went out late this afternoon to the Bodmin Moor area currently in significant crisis after a call from Bodmin Moor Commons Council who have along with APHA vets, RSPCA, Redwings and others been out all day tirelessly trying to get a number of ponies seized and to safety! A number of others have also been seized and are safe in another home and operations are continuing to remove more ponies over coming days from the problem area.

"We have managed to get 4 back to our yard late tonight and will be collecting our other two very special ponies shortly from their safe house. These two are part of a larger herd that we were originally supposed to take in some weeks ago but sadly their rescue failed and we have been out observing regularly since until such a point as we could hopefully get them safely home. Panda, the little bay foal in our first picture has been a huge worry to us over these weeks and are so happy to know she is now safe as she is very poor, as all this seized group are!

"I can only praise all of the hard work by the combined agencies today for getting these ponies safely off the moor and huge thanks also to Pip from Shires Holt Rescue for his loading skills and my righthand pair Julie and Liam for always being there in an emergency, helping walk Panda and her companion all the way off from their remote location with me and everything they do and hard work to help support our cause and our ponies - couldn't do it without you two!

"And above all everyone who cares about these ponies enough to want to make a difference and fight their corner and all of our supporters!"
