Fire crews from across Cornwall have tackled a blaze in Launceston - after reports of an explosion.

It happened on the Pennygillam industrial estate in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Teams from the town, Callington, Liskeard and St Austell found three lorries ablaze.

It is not clear what sparked it.

Teams took more than an hour to put out the flames, after calling in specialist equipment.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 1.26am Fire Control received a call to Pennygillam Industrial Estate.

"The caller had heard an explosion and could see flames coming from a nearby property.

"Two appliances from Launceston were mobilised to the incident along with a Supervisory Officer.

"On arrival crews found three lorries to be well alight with the possibility of spread to nearby buildings and requested another two appliances to attend.

"These were mobilised from Liskeard and Callington along with a specialist appliance from St Austell and another Supervisory Officer.

"Crews used four breathing apparatus sets, two main jets and a hose reel to tackle the fire."
