Baby Left With Brain Damage For Life After Being Shaken By Dad

The mum of a Saltash baby, left disabled after being shaken by his dad, says he has "got away with it."

Luke Honeychurch from Agaton Road, Plymouth is starting three years in jail, after admitting cruelty to the four month old.

The twenty-four year old was left in charge of little Romeo, so mum Abbie could go on a night out.

But after the attack he did not call an ambulance - and lied about what had happened.

Sentencing him on Friday, Judge Simon Carr described it as a "truly tragic" case.

He told Honeychurch: "What makes this case even worse is what you did afterwards.

"You would have realised immediately something was potentially very seriously wrong with your son.

"Rather than doing what you should have done, which was call 999 immediately, you hoped to cover up what you had done.

"I accept that this was not done in malice but because you simply did not know how to properly handle a child of that age."

Abbie says Romeo will have to live with cerebral palsy, epilepsy and diabetes.

"Three years is nothing," she told The Plymouth Evening Herald.

"I will look after a disabled son for the rest of my life. My son has not got justice.

"He [Honeychurch] has got away with it. I hate him.

"I thought he would get ten years. He will only be in prison for one and half. It's unbelievable."

She has thanked family and friends who have supported her - and says she wants to be able to get on with her and Romeo's lives.
