Helen Glover and partner Heather Stanning won the rowing coxless pairs in Rio.

Now on Sunday 4th September, Pirate FM and The Cornishman will be supporting a massive celebration, organised by Humphry Davy School and Penzance Town Council.

The town will be celebrating Helen's fantastic achievement in the Rio 2016 Olympics, where she and her partner, Heather Stanning, defended their title in the Women's Pairs, winning their second gold.

Helen, a former student at Humphry Davy School, will be accompanied on the open topped victory bus by Humphry Davy School band.

She will also be joined by local sporting figures, close friends and family.

The bus will leave from Newlyn Quarry at 1.30pm and will make its way through town to the Harbour Car Park where the Town Mayor and the Headteacher of Humphry Davy School will greet the parade.

The Victory Parade will continue to Humphry Davy School where a formal invitation only Civic Reception will be held at 4pm. Helen will be greeted at Humphry Davy School by friends, family, dignitaries, former teachers, sporting coaches, team mates and school friends.

Bill Marshall, Headteacher at Humphry Davy School said: "Following Helen's fantastic achievement in 2012, students from Humphry Davy and surrounding schools have been so fortunate to have her visit and inspire them with an ever increasing number of students going on to perform at the highest levels in a wide range of sports.

"Hard work, dedication and commitment clearly pay off and Helen is a fantastic role model to all young people everywhere.

"An integral part of our Humphry Davy School vision is, 'to unlock the talent and enterprise of all our young people' and 'to develop their full academic, creative, physical and personal potential'. A 'Double Olympic Gold Medallist' coming from Humphry Davy School can only reinforce our 'can do' philosophy and build confidence.

"We are incredibly proud of Helen! Even changing rowing partners to pair with Polly Swann in 2013 did not impede her success; pairs rowing is a team effort but Helen is clearly an amazing athlete.

"Well done to both Helen and Heather and we look forward to welcoming you back to Penzance and celebrating with the local community."

Town Mayor Michael Lovegrove added: "Penzance is very proud of Helen and her amazing achievement in gaining another gold medal in the 2016 Olympics to sit alongside her medal from the 2012 Olympics. On behalf of the Town Council and all the people of Penzance - congratulations Helen and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to your home town in true Cornish style!"
