Fears Person Trapped In Car Fire

Fire crews in St Austell have battled back flames engulfing a car, fearing someone was trapped inside.

Everyone got out OK at Penwithick Park on Sunday night, but one person was treated for burns.

It is after a string of 999 calls from people who were worried that someone had not managed to scramble free from the blaze.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called just after 10pm.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Numerous calls were received for this incident, with some stating that there was a person believed within the vehicle, two appliances from St. Austell were mobilised.

On attendance the vehicle was found to be well alight, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high pressure hosereel jets to extinguish the fire.

"It was quickly established that there was no one within the vehicle.

"One person was treated on scene by attending ambulance personnel for burns.

"Devon and Cornwall Police were also in attendance."
