Cornwall's Olympic champion Helen Glover was among the stars gracing the red carpet for the Pride of Britain Awards.

The Penzance tweeted this photo from the red carpet on Monday night, posting: "Excited to arrive at @PrideOfBritain awards to celebrate some amazing people".

Helen appeared with her sporting partner Heather Stanning. It comes just weeks after returning from Rio where they won gold in the women's coxless pairs.

Helen said: "We're really excited to be here. I think it's a great event that supports everything that we can be proud of so it's exciting".

She added: "I think I'm probably just as dazed today as I was then. It's been really full-on. I got married and had a honeymoon and I've been really busy with everything but it's really exciting.

"The reception we received on that day has continued in a way and everyone's been amazing".

"We've had our congratulations, we've had our time to be proud but this is really a celebration of the people that Britain has to be proud of. The people who are hard-working every day from the nurses and teachers to the soldiers.

"We feel humbled every time people celebrate us because really we're here to celebrate people who do the most amazing things".

Sir Tom Jones, Bake-Off's Mary Berry and X-Factor stars like Simon Cowell and Dermot O'Leary were also in London for the awards.

Dermot called it an amazing event: "It's one of those nights when you come home and go, do you know what, everything I've ever complained about is utter nonsense; it's so inspiring. It's a night about people who don't put themselves first".

It was Sir Cliff Richard's first big TV appearance since an investigation into those abuse allegtions was dropped.

He thanked fans for their loyalty and said he "feels fantastic".

Speaking to Sky News, Sir Cliff said: "I've known all along that I had enormous support so therefore it's been a very helpful thing for me.

"It's difficult to explain how it felt but now I feel fantastic and I'm here, back doing what I normally do. It's an amazing feeling".

You can watch the awards on ITV at 8pm on Tuesday night.
