Crews have battled a fire at a swimming pool in Tavistock.

They were scrambled to Kelly College on Monday evening.

Officials say it broke out in a light fitting just after 7.30pm.

Firefighters used pressure ventilation to clear smoke and a thermal imaging camera to check the blaze was out.

They say it was accidental.

A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting smoke in the swimming pool area at Kelly College, Tavistock.

"Fire crews from Tavistock and Yelverton were immediately mobilised.

"On arrival, the incident commander instructed firefighters to don breathing apparatus. A hose reel jet and covering jet were also in use".

"The incident commander confirmed a small fire in a light fitting. Positive pressure ventilation was in use to clear smoke and a thermal imaging camera was in use to identify heat sources".

Just before 9pm on Monday night, they added: "The incident commander confirmed the fire was out and crews would shortly be leaving. There was a small fire in the swimming pool area involving a light fitting and staging boards of a scaffold tower.

"The cause of the fire was accidental".
