PHOTOS: Day 3 of search for missing Cornwall man

Bad weather has hampered a massive air and sea search for a missing vulnerable man off the Cornish coast.

46-year-old John Hurst from Cubert has not been seen since Tuesday night.

Rescue crews and police spent most of the evening and Wednesday scouring an area off Newquay.

Police have tweeted an appeal and say officers will meet on Thursday morning to decide what to do next.

Coastguard teams, police, lifeboats and a rescue chopper were all drafted in late on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson from Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The team were paged to assist Devon & Cornwall Police search for a vulnerable missing person in the Cubert area of Cornwall.

"The team were assisted by St Agnes Coastguard team and they carried out a comprehensive search in very poor weather conditions.

"The search was suspended at 0330am and recommenced at 0630am, with volunteers from both teams only having a couple of hours sleep before turning out again.

"The weather conditions were still extremely poor bur with daylight we were now assisted by both Newquay lifeboats, the Coastguard helicopter and Cornwall Search & Rescue Team".

They added: "The conditions were gale force winds and rain, 40mph gusts, very poor visibility and a sea state of 5-6.

Police say they are concerned for John's welfare, after the 46-year-old disappeared from the Cubert area.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified on Tuesday 7th March just after 7pm to a concern of welfare for John Hurst, 46.

"He is described as white, 6ft, of large build, with short dark hair, with a beard/stubble and has a scratch above his left eye.

"He is possibly wearing a black coat, blue jumper and jeans. 

"Police have concerns for his welfare. If you see him call 999 quoting log 645 070317".
