UPDATE: Body found at bottom of Cornish cliffs

A body has been recovered from the base of cliffs in west Cornwall.

Coastguard rescue crews were called to an area near Land's End, along with the Coastguard helicopter.

Emergency services reportedly received a call to say a man had been spotted on the cliff path, but that has not been confirmed.

Police and the Sennen lifeboat were also scrambled following the initial call, which came in on Sunday afternoon.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man's family has been told.

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "The call came through to an incident just after 1pm on Sunday 30th April.

"Penzance and Land's End Coastguard Rescue Teams responded. Police and the Sennen inshore lifeboat were also called.

"An adult was recovered from below the cliff near Land's End and this is now being classed as a police matter".

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were notified at around 1.30pm on Sunday 30th April to Sennen, Penzance, following reports of a body being located by the Falmouth Coastguard.

"The body of a man in his thirties was located at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner.

"Next of kin have been informed."

Posting on Facebook, Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station said: "The inshore lifeboat 'Amy Brown' launched at 1405pm this afternoon (Sunday 30th April) to provide safety cover for Land;s End and Penzance Cliff Rescue Teams carrying out recovery work at the cliff base just south of Lands End".

It is understood a body was recovered by emergency services and Pirate FM has contacted Devon and Cornwall Police for more information.
