Incredible footage of a basking shark swimming next to a family's fishing boat off Cornwall has been caught on camera.

Nicholas Casley had gone angling with his son near Mullion when they spotted the gentle giant on Sunday.

He has told Pirate FM that at one point, it lingered for around five minutes and seemed very "inquisitive".

According to the Shark Trust, basking sharks can reach up to 12m in length and are the largest fish in British waters.

They protected species if one of only three that feed on plankton and they tend to appear in our waters each spring and summer.

Nicholas said: "I was out angling with my son, Thomas, and we saw a very inquisitive Basking Shark, who was very interested in us!

"He stayed around us for about five minutes, and at one point was about three feet from the boat, just looking at us".

Describing the creature, Nicholas added: "They are such graceful sight in the water".

His video is definitely worth a watch...
