Woman in hospital after coast path fall

A woman is in hospital after falling on the coast path near Falmouth.

Coastguard rescue teams and paramedics got the shout to Maenporth on Thursday lunchtime.

It was after reports a woman had slipped and possibly broke her ankle.

Crews managed to get her onto a stretcher and she was taken to Treliske.

A Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said: "The team were tasked to a report of a fallen person near Maenporth, Falmouth.

"Once on scene, we found the casualty who had slipped on the coast path and possibly fractured her ankle.

"Alongside ambulance crews, we administered first aid and stabilised the casualty.

"We then packaged her onto our stretcher and, with the assistance of Porthoustock CRT, conveyed the the casualty to the waiting ambulance for onward transport to RCH Treliske.

"Once complete, we stood down, gave the truck a good wash and ready for service by 3.30pm.

"We wish the lady a speedy recovery."

They added: "When out walking, it's important you have a rough idea of where you are, as initially incorrect information was passed to ambulance control and sent the crew to the incorrect location towards Falmouth rather than towards Rosemullion Head, where the casualty was eventually found.

"If you spot anyone or get in trouble yourself on the coast, please call 999 and ask for Coastguard.

"Our Operations Centres will be able to dispatch the most appropriate resource to come to your rescue.

"HM Coastguard is a 'Category 1' Responder. As defined in the Civil Contingencies Act - 2004. As part of the 'Blue Light' Section. This is formed by Police Services (Inc, BTP) Ambulance Services, Fire & Rescue Services and HM Coastguard."
