Woman named after fatal lake crash

A woman who died after a car plunged into a Cornish lake has been named.

29--year-old Hazel Brown was from Redruth.

Police day the car ended up in the water near Stithians Lake and Carnmenellis on Tuesday evening.

Hazel was taken to hospital but doctors could not save her.

The road was closed for over five hours and anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact officers.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "A woman who died following a single car collision at Hillside near Stithians Lake, Carnmenellis, Redruth, has been named.

"The woman has been formally identified as 29-year-old Hazel Brown from Redruth.

"Emergency services were called at approximately 8.50pm on Tuesday 16th May following reports of the collision.

"As a result of the incident the vehicle entered the water of the lake.

"Hazel, who was driving, was conveyed to Treliske hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

"Police closed the road for five and a half hours while a specialist forensic examination of the scene was carried out.

"Officers from Plymouth and Camborne Roads Policing Team attended the scene and are appealing for further witnesses to come forward."
