A man has suffered serious injuries after a crash in south-east Cornwall.

Police, firefighters and the air ambulance got the shout after two cars hit between Polperro and Looe.

An elderly man was trapped and had to be cut free from a car near the Oaklands Caravan Park.

Officers say he was conscious and breathing and has been airlifted to Derriford hospital.

It happened on the A387 between Trelaske Lane and Sclerder Lane.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were informed at around 12:20pm today (19th May) of a two-vehicle collision on Polperro Road in Looe, near Oaklands Caravan Park, involving a Citroen Saloon and a Ford Ranger.

"It has been reported that one elderly man was trapped in the Citreon, the fire service attended to aid with freeing him, and ambulance and police are also on the scene.

"The man has since been freed from the car and was conscious and breathing. He has been taken to Derriford hospital with serious chest and arm injuries by air ambulance.

"A clear up is currently taking place at the scene."

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On receipt of this call appliances from Looe, Liskeard and the rescue tender were mobilised.

"On arrival at the scene there were found to be two cars involved, with one person trapped.

"Crews used crash rescue equipment at the scene to release the casualty to attending ambulance crews, the air ambulance was also in attendance."
