A main road through Bodmin is set to re-open after improvement works.

Now the route is set to be up and running from the evening of the 7th of June - the day before the Royal Cornwall Show kicks off.

The contractor undertaking the current road improvement scheme in the town, Cormac, has confirmed that the route that will take traffic through the town is set to be opened, provided there are no last minute delays due to weather.

Diversions will remain in place until this date and those heading to the showground at Wadebridge ahead of the event are urged to check the Cormac website for current routes around the town.

The only exception is for heavy goods vehicle and coaches heading to Wadebridge.

These vehicles should continue follow the signed route along the A30 to the A39 before and during the show.

Christopher Riddle, secretary of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association said: "We are pleased at the news that Cormac are confident that the route through the Bodmin area for those heading to Wadebridge will be open in time for the show this year.

"The show is Cornwall's largest annual event and with around 120,000 people expected to attend over the three days this will help ease the increased traffic that is inevitably generated.

"Many visitors will of course also use the normal routes via Camelford, depending on where they are travelling from."

You can find more information about the scheme and current diversion routes here.
