A suspected hit-and-run that left a man with serious injuries has sparked a police appeal.

Emergency services were called to Tamerton Foliot Road in Plymouth in the early hours of Saturday 10th June.

It was following a collision between a pedestrian and what is believed to be a small black car.

Officers say the 34-year-old Plymouth man was walking home with a female friend when the incident happened.

He sustained serious leg injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital where he underwent surgery.

A 69-year-old man from Plymouth was later arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Police are investigating the incident and appealing for any motorists or pedestrians who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Detective Constable Mat Johnson, of Crownhill CID, said: "We are aware that there was other traffic in the area, possibly taxis.

"I would like to hear from anyone who saw two people walking down Tamerton Foliot Road or a small black car travelling on the road between 1.40am and 1.50am on Saturday.

"I am especially keen to receive any dash cam footage from drivers who may have been in the area at the time, particularly travelling between Budshead Road and Looseleigh Lane on what is locally known as Clarks Hill."

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log number 101 of 10/06/17.
