A man faces drugs charges after the death of a teenage girl, found unconscious in a south-west park.

The 15-year-old was rushed to hospital from Newton Abbot in the early hours of Saturday morning, but later died.

Two other girls taken to hospital as a precaution have since been allowed to go home.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police in Devon investigating the death of a 15-year-old girl in Newton Abbot on Saturday 15th July have now charged a man with drug offences.

"Police were informed by ambulance in the early hours of Saturday morning that they had taken a girl to Torbay District Hospital where she later died".

The force says it is continuing to support the girl's family, who live outside of Devon and Cornwall.

A 20-year-old man from Newton Abbot has been charged with two counts of supplying MDMA and one of supplying cannabis.

He appeared before Plymouth Magistrates on Monday morning.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Exeter Crown Court in August.
