Out of date but live flares have been discovered at Chapel Porth.

Lifeguards called St Agnes Coastguard on Friday (August 11) afternoon after discovering the suspected time expired pyrotechnics.

They had washed up in the last high tide.

The area had to be cordoned off while an assessment was carried out.

St agnes Coastguard said: "The team followed our procedure for examining possible TEP and found it to be live, out of date, but in reasonable condition."

The TEP was sealed and made ready for transportation to Falmouth MRCC where it will be securely stored and then destroyed by the MCAs TEP contractor.

The Coastguard adds: "As always, if you find anything that you think may be ordnance or TEP on the beach, do not handle or move it, mark it's position, and report immediately to the Coastguard."
