This is the moment water came pouring down through the ceiling at a Cornish supermarket.

Customers have told Pirate FM Tesco in Truro had to evaucated on Wednesday.

Part of the ceiling collapsed after a leak, sending torrents of water cascading into the fruit and veg aisle.

Mark Hemsworth tweeted this video, saying: "Tesco Truro evacuated after ceiling collapses and water came rushing through.

He added: "No injuries but a near miss", which sparked a flurry of posts on the social media site.

Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club replied: "You'd better mobilise the SLS Cornwall Flood Rescue team", to which Mark replied: "It's in the veg aisle at least".

Ben responded: "At least it'll help keep the fruit and veg fresh", while Ian said: "I hope that's not my coffee machine upstairs that's sprung a leak".

Clive commented: "I think the roof has leaked there ever since the store opened", while @lagerlout1966 joked: "Every bucket helps".

In a statement, a spokesman for the supermarket chain said: "Following a roof leak at our Truro Superstore, we briefly asked customers to leave the building.

"Our maintenance team quickly identified the cause of the problem and are undertaking work to rectify it.

"The store is open and trading, but a small area of our fresh produce section is temporarily closed whilst we carry out repairs to the roof drainage system.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused".
