Police have been called to reports a man had a knife on a beach in Cornwall.

Negotiators and police dogs were called to Looe on Saturday morning amid reports the man was making threats.

A 19-year-old fled the scene but was found and taken to hospital.

Officers say a man was arrested and cautioned for being on possession of an offensive weapon in public.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 5am on Saturday 23rd September following concerns for the welfare of a man on Looe Beach.

"Police negotiators attended along with the police dogs and located a man who was making threats to harm and was in possession of a knife.

"The man fled and was soon located by a firearms support dog.

"The 19-year-old man was arrested and taken to Derriford Hospital; he later was cautioned for being on possession of an offensive weapon in public".
