A manhole has reportedly exploded in the middle of a street in Camborne.

The fire service got a call saying there was a large bang and flash on Cross Street.

It turns out an arcing electrical cable had caused an explosion and smoke was coming from the pit.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service says crews and engineers made the scene safe on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson said: "Five firefighters on one appliance from Tolvaddon attended a call to a reported fire coming from under a manhole.

"The caller reported seeing a large flash a big bang and smoke coming from the pit.

"Crews on scene investigated the manhole and confirmed an arcing electrical cable underneath had caused an explosion.

"Firefighters made the scene safe and remained in attendance until the arrival of electrical engineers".
