Death of young man at Cornish recycling plant

More details have emerged after the tragic death of a young man at a recycling plant in Cornwall.

Police were called to reports of a worker trapped in machinery at H&A Recycling in Redruth.

A 23-year-old was declared dead at the scene on Thursday afternoon and his family has been told.

Police tape could be seen at the gates on Friday and a patrol car was parked outside at the Cardrew Industrial Estate.

Now an investigation is underway.

Devon and Cornwall Police has told Pirate FM the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

A HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident and is assisting the police who have primacy.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police and emergency services were called to H&A Hygiene Services on Cardrew Way, Redruth at around 4pm on Thursday 16th November, with reports of a man trapped in the machinery.

"A 23-year-old local man was declared deceased at the scene. Formal identification is yet to have taken place, but next of kin have been informed.

"Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed of this matter. Police remain at the scene as part of their enquiries".

Managing Director of H&A Recycling ltd, Allan M Holmes, said: "We are of course devastated that this accident has occurred at our Recycling Centre.

"At this very upsetting time we are fully co-operating with the police and the HSE who are rightly conducting their investigations.

"Our sincere condolences go to the family, friends and co-workers and we will offer our support to the immediate family for an unspecified period of time".

Tributes have been pouring into Pirate FM's Facebook page.

Sharon posted: "Thoughts with the family. Much love to you all."

Emma said: "Gone too soon, gunna miss you, family tragedys like this are horrible."

And Marlin added: "Very sad news to start the day."
