Huge flames after car catches fire in Cornwall

This was the scene when flames from a car fire lit up the sky in west Cornwall.

Firefighters from Mullion rushed to the scene near Cury Cross Lanes on Wednesday night.

Crews used high pressure hoses and dry powder to douse the blaze after finding the vehicle off the road.

Teams had tweeted a warning to drivers, after fuel spilled onto the rural back road at Bochym.

A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "On receipt of this call, one appliance from Mullion was alerted.

"On arrival the car was found to be well alight and was off the road.

"The fire was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two high pressure hosereels and a dry powder extinguisher.

"Crews were detained for a short time damping down".
