Truro's City of Lights parade has been given a new date after the event was postponed.

The festival was due to take place on Wednesday 22nd November.

But bosses had to cancel it as strong winds and heavy rain battered the Duchy.

They decided it wasn't safe for the children and volunteers or anyone coming along to watch.

But now it has been revealed that the festival will take place on the 31st January instead.

A spokesperson said: "The City of Lights Team are proud to announce the new date for 2017's parade on Wednesday 31st January 2018.

"They would like to thank all those who have supported this event for the past 21 years and very much look forward to sharing this celebration with the local community and visitors in the new year.

"The City of Lights lantern parade could not happen without the continued support by all community members, sponsors, schools, artists, musicians and volunteers involved.

"This year’s parade is proudly sponsored by Alverton Hotel, Bonhams, Cornwall College, Cultivator, FEAST, Mannings, Newquay Zoo, Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts, The Old Grammar School, One Vision with Cornwall Council, Red Row Housing, Seasalt Clothing, Sole Plaice, Stormfront, Taylor Wimpey, Truro BID, Truro City Council, Truro & Penwith College, Waitrose, Western Power and Wolfrock."
