An investigation is beginning into a huge fire that has devastated a Cornish holiday park, just a week before Christmas.

Pirate FM told you parts of Carvynick Country Club was totally gutted in the early hours of Saturday.

At its height, firefighters from Falmouth to Launceston were battling the blaze near Summercourt.

Crews from 10 towns were working to douse the flames that tore through the leisure complex for over 24 hours.

Owner Abe Simpson told Pirate FM it felt like every firefighter in Cornwall was at the scene: "I was woken up at 6am when my dad came in and said you've got to get up, Carvynick is burning down.

"As we were coming across Carland Cross, we could see what looked like a fireball where Carvynick should be.

"When we arrived, the whole office block and leisure complex was on fire. As it stands right now, there's nothing left".

"The swimming pool, badminton courts, offices, reception office, conference rooms - they have have all gone. We are gutted. Everything has gone".

The family confirmed no-one was hurt and the nearby Fox's Revenge pub and the holiday chalets around the main complex escaped unscathed.

Pirate FM understands they already have plans to rebuild the leisure complex in the New Year.

Posting on Facebook, Carvynick said: "If you are due to stay at Carvynick Holiday Park in the next few days, please could you email us at jrwgw582@gmail.com.

"Despite the fire, Carvynick will ensure its customers and friends are kept fully up to date. This dreadful fire wont dampen our spirits, especially at Christmas.

"We only ask that you respect we won't be in a position to offer leisure services, conferences or a fully functional reception until the middle of next week. We thank everyone for your support at this time".
