A road in Padstow has now re-opened after a gas leak.

Engineers spent hours working to repair the A389 after it happened on Wednesday morning.

The leaking pipe caused damage to the road surface.

It was described as a 'complex' job but officials confirmed it was all sorted by 4.30pm.

Andy Jones, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Padstow said: “We were alerted to reports of a smell of gas in the A389 area of Padstow this morning and immediately sent an engineer to the scene.

"On arrival, we found a significant leak on a gas pipe running beneath the A389 which has caused damage to the road surface.

"This was a complex job, but after working throughout the night and today, our engineers have stopped the leak and completed a full repair. The A389 road has also been reopened.

“We are now filling in the holes that we have dug, and will need to keep our traffic lights in place in order to give the new road surface time to set.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we carried out these essential repairs.

"We appreciate that working on roads such as these is not ideal, but it was important that we fix this leak now, in order to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to homes and businesses.”
