The Environment Agency warns flood alerts for some parts of Cornwall could be in force across the weekend.

One was issued on Saturday morning, advising those near rivers at Land's End, Penzance, Hayle and Portreath to be prepared.

Officials say levels remain high and are set to stay that way, with more downpours forecast on Sunday.

The same goes for the other alert, issued for the Upper Tamar at Bude, on Saturday evening.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "Some flooding is possible on Sunday 21st January.

"We expect to see persistent heavy rainfall across the region throughout the day.

"The Upper River Tamar is likely to rise tomorrow morning and to stay high through into Monday.

"At present, the anticipated river levels suggest that there may be flooding to low-lying land and roads near the river, however no flooding to properties is currently forecast".

Speaking about the rivers in west Cornwall, they added: "This Flood Alert continues to remain in force.

"The River Hayle remains high and more rainfall is forecast throughout Sunday the 21st of January.

"This may cause further rise in all rivers across the west Cornwall area. Therefore it is likely that the alert will remain in force throughout".

They added: "Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.

"We are monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for and clearing blockages".
