A man has died after a car mounted a pavement and crashed into a tree in Penzance.

Officers and a rescue chopper got the shout to Wharf Road just after 7.30pm on Wednesday night.

Locals say there was lots of police activity in the area and the helicopter was over the harbour.

The car was travelling in the direction of the railway station when it happened.

Sadly the 67-year-old local could not be saved and died at the scene.

Officers say it is unclear exactly what happened, and anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
