An appeal for help has been launched after thousands of pounds worth of tools were taken from a construction site in Cornwall.

Owners of Coastal Construction say the workers are devastated, after they were stolen from the site on Tregolls Road in Truro.

It is thought to have happened between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Now they are urging anyone with information to get in touch.

They are also appealing to anyone who can donate new or discounted tools.

Coastal Construction company director Neil Harding said: "We are carrying out a rennovation extension project which is on a property which is actually my own house in Truro.

"Unfortunately, we are actually due for completion and due to move in next week - but on Tuesday someone broke in through a back door there and took the guys' power tools.

"They took the electrician's and carpenter's power tools and hand tools as well, which is obviously a real downer to what was otherwise a really good project."

After posting a plea for information to Facebook, Neil says they have had an 'amazing response' - and it has been shared more than 150 times.

He said: "The response has been amazing from people, they're looking out for them and people are getting in touch to say when people are selling power tools.

"Power tools are replaceable, it's more the kind of hand tools, like chisels, hammers and things that some guys have had passed down to them or had since their apprentice days.

"I think that's more of a choker than the electric power tools, but they were obviously the more valuable tools as well.

"Some of the power tools are Dewalt or Makita power tools."

Neil estimates about £12,000 to £15,000 of power tools went missing, plus the lower value hand tools.

Some of the tools were Dewalt or Makita tools, which has names on them.

Neil said: "I think the guys are trying to recoup now what they have lost, either financially or every day they realise what's been missing and are contacting various merchants to see if they can get a deal on anything really."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are investigating a burglary at a property under renovation in Tregolls Road, Truro.

"The offence happened between 9pm on Monday 29 January and 7am on Tuesday 30 January.

"A large quantity of power tools and a number of household items including televisions and hoovers have been stolen.

"Police are appealing for witnesses and are keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered second hand power tools for sale in the area."

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the offence is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting crime reference CR/009259/18.
