WATCH: Book revealed ahead of second Man Engine tour

Cornwall children will have the chance to meet the creators behind a giant mechanical tin miner as a new book is launched in his honour.

The colossal puppet, known as the Man Engine, steamed the length of the Cornish Mining landscape in summer 2016.

People poured into bustling town centres, onto remote cliff-tops and around iconic engine houses across the Duchy to greet him.

Celebrating the Cornish Mining Landscape's World Heritage status, he is the largest mechanical puppet ever to be built in Britain, standing at 11.2m.

Now, ahead of his 2018 Resurrection Tour, author and creator Will Coleman and illustrator Brian Hoskin have released a children's picture book, 'The Man Engine Remembers'.

Those behind the book say it has a strong focus on community spirit, hope and commemorating Cornwall's cultural history.

Targeted at children between the ages of 3 to 7, they hope it will not only offer charm but also be educational.

Will said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed working on creating The Man Engine Remembers with my good friend and superbly talented illustrator, Brian Hoskin.

"In 2016 the Man Engine brought alive the epic spirit of Cornish miners and had a whole new generation asking questions about what our Industrial Heritage means.

"In this book I hope that we have created something that inspires younger generations to learn more about our world-changing mining history.

"An gwella sten? Yn Kernow!"

Those who wish to meet Will and Brian can do so on Saturday, February 10th at 2pm at Waterstones in Truro, with a second launch taking place on February 17th at 2pm at The Cornish Store in Falmouth.

Following his recent success in the National Lottery Awards, it was revealed the Man Engine will take on a second adventure across the whole of the UK.

Starting on Saturday, 31st March 2018, he will re-appear where he was last seen - at Geevor Tin Mine in west Cornwall.

The Resurrection Tour will span Cornwall and west Devon, before he strolls into Somerset, south Wales and up to the north of England.

Unlike his last tour, this time there will be two different events at each location.

The day event is more family-focused, with the chance for people to get up close with the Man Engine and join singing and dancing with him, while the evening events will give people a chance to enjoy an 'edgier extravaganza'.

That will include things like pyrotechnics and 'pupeteering science'.

Will said: "Our 'Afternooner' will give families and big kids the chance to really get to know their favourite giant miner: there will be an industrial-scale feast of fun and frolics.

"The 'Afterdarker' promises an edgier explosive experience including white-hot pyrotechnics - sparks will fly! Suffice to say, we are cranking up the experience that held everyone spellbound last year".
