A dog has had to have emergency surgery after eating a fish with a hook still inside it on a Cornish beach.

In fact, the fish also had a 10-inch line inside when LJ the labrador found it at Carlyon Bay.

The pooch was rushed to the vets for an operation, and he has been described as being 'very lucky'.

Now his owner is warning others of the dangers.

Sean Clancy told Pirate FM: "The first photo was taken about 20 minutes before LJ ate some fish on Carlyon Bay Beach, which had a two and a half inch fish hook and about 10 inch line on it.

"He had to go and have an emergency operation that night to have it removed. The vet said he was very lucky.

"I just want people to be aware of the rubbish being left in our beaches."

He also shared the warning on Facebook, saying: "To all you dog owners. This is LJ on Carlyon Bay Beach this afternoon.

"About 20 mins before he ate some fish which unfortunately had a fish hook in which is lodged in his stomach.

"He is being operated on as I'm righting this.

"I'm so angry but most of all really, really upset.

"Vets will phone me later to let me know how he is."
