Plans for a £25m luxury holiday resort on the edge of St Ives have got the go ahead and this is what it might look like.

Una St Ives will overlook the stunning Carbis Bay, including an apartment hotel, leisure facilities and up to 130 villas and apartments.

Kingfisher Resorts says work on the site of a former touring caravan park is due to start before the end of the year.

Director Damian Sargent said: "We want to create a world-class resort with iconic architecture and are delighted that our plans have won approval.

"We expect to be on site before the end of the year and are aiming to complete the first phase of the scheme, which will include the hotel, apartments and an exciting range of new leisure facilities for visitors and locals, by Easter 2020".

At the heart of the new resort is a large open piazza enclosed by the hotel, which takes its inspiration from historic Cornish quoits and the local landscape.

The Una hotel ground floor will feature local stone - to reinforce the concept of buildings 'growing' out of the landscape - and includes the resort guest reception, a home bakery and delicatessen, café/bistro, bar, and an indoor games club. Nearby is located a 'field kitchen' and barbeque area for the warmer months.

Above the stone base, the hotel is a lightweight metal and glass structure offering dual aspect, spacious one-bedroom apartments with large open balconies.

Damien added: "This spacious accommodation is perfect for couples who wish to spend more than a couple of nights on holiday.

The existing leisure club will be expanded with a larger gym, a spacious new fitness studio, plus a large heated outdoor swimming pool and two padel tennis courts, set with a mini amphitheatre.

Una Kitchen will be expanded with a new internal terrace and al fresco dining.

A spokesperson from the independent Cornwall Design Review Panel said: "We are broadly supportive of the bold and ambitious approach that this project espouses - it has the potential to provide a new benchmark for this type of development".
