This was the scene in Newquay on Tuesday and now a fresh band of torrential downpours means Cornwall remains on flood watch.

Alerts are in force for rivers in the north and west of the Duchy and the Upper River Tamar, from Newquay to Bude.

The Environment Agency warns low-lying land and roads are most at risk on Wednesday.

It comes after heavy rain sparked flash flooding on Cornwall's roads on Tuesday.

The Environment Agency said: "Following the rain on Tuesday 13th February, river levels remain high and will rise again quickly with the next band of rain. This Flood Alert therefore remains in place.

"Further frontal rain is expected to sweep across Cornwall through most of Wednesday 14th February.

"With saturated ground conditions run-off from fields can be expected, river levels will rise through the day and flooding of low lying land and roads is likely.

"However, no flooding to properties is currently forecast. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.

"We are monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for and clearing blockages".
