Police have confirmed a man has suffered life-threatening injuries after a serious crash in Cornwall.

Three vehicles were caught in the collision on the main road between Truro and St Austell.

Firefighters and paramedics were also scrambled to the scene near the junction for Tresillian.

The A390 was closed at Probus for most of the day on Monday, but reopened at around 6pm.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 11.25am to the A390 at Tresllian, Truro to reports of a single car collision. Car reportedly on fire".

On Monday, the force said four casualties were hurt and described some injuries as potentially life-changing.

However, officers have since confirmed an 85-year-old man from St Austell is fighting for his life and you can read more here.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire appliances from Truro, one fire appliance from St Austell and the rescue tender from Bodmin were mobilised to a car on fire following a road traffic collision.

"Firefighters used crash rescue equipment to remove the roof and side of a car to release a trapped casualty.

"The casualty was left in care of paramedics.

"None of the cars involved were on fire.

"This was a serious collision and the road will remain closed for some considerable time".

Pirate FM understands the road reopened at around 6pm on Monday.
