Police have confirmed the serious crash involving a tractor and a car on the A30 in Cornwall was fatal.

A young man lost his life after it happened near Roche and a teenage girl is fighting for her life.

The air ambulance, firefighters and paramedics were scrambled at around 11.30pm on Saturday night.

The stretch between Indian Queens and Victoria was closed for over 12 hours but has since reopened.

Posting on Facebook, Nic Langridge said: "Accident on the A30 just before Victoria/Cornwall Services.

"Thank God Pete is OK with Archer in the car. They were only three cars behind it all".

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two casualties were airlifted to hospital after being cut free.

A spokesperson said: "A fire crew from St Dennis and two fire crews from Bodmin Community Fire Stations attended a two vehicle road traffic collision with two persons trapped on the A30 between Roach and Victoria.

"Fire crews rescued the two persons using crash rescue equipment.

"The casualties we conveyed to hospital by air ambulance and the incident has now been handed over to the police".

On Sunday morning, a spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police had said: "One of the vehicles crossed the central reservation and the road will be closed for some time.

"Due to the fact that the central reservation has been damaged, repairs are needed before the road can reopen".

They have since confirmed that a 20-year-old man from Truro died and a teenage girl was airlifted to Derriford.

The westbound carriageway reopened on Sunday lunchtime and eastbound shortly before 3pm.
