Police shut a stretch of the A30 after a serious crash.

A man has suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after a van and a tractor towing a trailer collided.

At one stage, the stretch near Bodmin was closed in both directions to allow the air ambulance to land.

Rob Butler was only a few cars back when he saw the helicopter arriving at around 10am on Tuesday.

The road has now re-opened.

He told Pirate FM: "It looks like there were three vehicles involved, a car and maybe a van and a lorry.

"It happened just by the slip road for Bodmin and there are lots of emergency services on the scene.

"The air ambulance managed to land on the A30 itself just in front of the crash.

"There are a number of fire engines, ambulances, paramedic cars and police cars.

"We were stuck there for about 45 minutes and it looked very serious".

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision on Tuesday 27th February.

"Police were called at around 9.45am to reports of a collision involving a Peugeot Van and a Massey Tractor with trailer carrying livestock on the A30 near Bodmin.

"The cattle in the trailer were uninjured".
