Seven-year-old girl dies after crash in Looe

It is understood a seven-year-old girl who died after a car lost control in Looe had been out playing in the snow.

Police say it is believed to have hit the pedestrian before crashing into a house on Bodrigan Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Thursday afternoon, but the youngster could not be saved. 

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the news has been broken to her family.

Posting on Pirate FM's Facebook page, Lanette Langford said: "So sad to be reading this.

"It is tragic to think that she was out enjoying the snow, like all the children in Looe and for it to end up like this. My thoughts are with her family and friends".

Jade is among the many others paying tribute: "I can't even begin to imagine the pain her loved ones must be experiencing. This is so tragic. The driver must also be besides themselves. Unbelievably sad".

Theresa posted: "Heartbreaking news. Thoughts with the poor little girl's family. I can't imagine, the hell they are going through".

Penny added: "Just terrible heartbreaking news. Thoughts and love to all her family at this time".

Laura commented: "Please be safe and don’t chance anything this is what can happen especially with this bad weather. Thoughts and prayers to the family".

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "One person has been fatally injured following a collision in Looe.

"Police were called at around 2.30pm on Thursday 1st March to reports of a a Nissan car colliding with a house on Bodrigan Road.

"A 7-year-old girl, believed to be a pedestrian, suffered life-threatening injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed".

Drivers are being urged to take extra care on the roads on Friday, with yellow warnings for snow and ice still in force.
