This was the damage caused to a tanning shop in the centre of Camborne after it was gutted by a huge fire.

An investigation is underway after crews spent Thursday night battling the blaze at Consol.

Firefighters from Tolvaddon, Hayle, Perranporth and Falmouth were called to the scene after a string of 999 calls.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the studio on Commercial Street.

Police were also called to the scene and the road was closed whilst firefighters tackled the blaze.

It took teams several hours to put it out with jets.

The ground floor salon area has been damaged by fire and the flats above damaged by smoke.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two appliances from Tolvaddon Community Fire Station were mobilised along with a supervisory officer following 999 calls to a fire in a shop.

"Camborne CCTV is monitored in the Critical Control Centre at the fire service HQ at Tolvaddon and smoke was soon seen issuing from the shop, indicating a spreading fire.

"An additional fire appliance from Hayle Emergency Services Community Station was mobilised and police informed that the road would be blocked by the fire appliances.

"On arrival, there was smoke issuing from the building and firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, got to work using one hose reel, one safety jet and one main jet to extinguish the fire".

Just after 11pm, they added: "A further appliance was requested for breathing apparatus, which is on scene from Perranporth (they were standing by at Tolvaddon).

"A breathing apparatus support vehicle and crew from Falmouth are also in attendance.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are continuing to cool the fire and search for hotspots using thermal imaging cameras and hosereels.

"Adjoining properties are being checked for fire spread. The building involved is 5 metres by 10 metres in a terrace and consisting of three floors. The tanning shop is on the ground floor with flats above.

"The road is still currently closed between Tyacks and Trelowarren Street. Devon & Cornwall Police are assisting firefighters at the scene".
